Uncertainty and Upheaval
It's January 2025. Trump and his administration have been installed in the Executive branch of the US government, and as anticipated, they are wreaking absolute havoc. The flurry of Executive Orders and proposed legislation is hate-fueled, demonstrates blatant corruption, and involves the systemic dismantling of the federal government. Not only have these changes impacted individuals, but taken together, they have caused a widespread sense of panic, anxiety, depression, dread, and uncertainty. I have been observing and, admittedly occasionally, engaging in these complicated emotions through my multiple identities as a Black woman, single mother, entrepreneur, licensed psychologist, and pleasure coach. Despite all of the uncertainty and upheaval, one thing has remained true: pleasure is a pathway to liberation. The tactic the current Presidential administration is using is designed to create panic and overwhelm. Not only are they interested in enacting the changes they are proposing, but they also want the masses—especially those who would actively oppose their goals—to be psychologically exhausted and emotionally dysregulated. Pleasure is the antithesis of those states. So, while I cannot conceive of a liberated future without pleasure as the basis, I also believe that a focus on pleasure is an approach to help us get to that liberated future. I have developed and published a planner and journal as a great tool to help you with prioritizing your pleasure. It's called The Pleasure Pursuit.

The Pleasure Pursuit: Planner + Journal
In working with high-achieving Black women clients in therapy and coaching several themes consistently show up in our sessions. Feeling disconnected from their body, having a limited repertoire of pleasure, perceived scarcity of time for pleasure, a general sense of deprioritizing their pleasure just to name a few. One of the strategies I use in my coaching is to conduct a Pleasure Potential Assessment of their current life. This involves looking at their time, responsibilities, and energy in a typical week as well as their physical space and resources to help them identify where, when, and how they can make some small but radical changes in their daily lives to invite more pleasure in. That is usually a very eye-opening experience that creates positive momentum for them to make practical changes in their lives to truly engage their pleasure journey. What oftentimes happens next is a sense of uncertainty and bafflement about where to then start with inviting more pleasure into their lives.
The Pleasure Pursuit is the tool I developed to help women get clarity and insight about along with a plan to deepen their capacity for pleasure. It provides you with a flexible structure that gives you enough direction to start prioritizing your pleasure on your own terms in a way that makes sense for your life. The journal component allows you to be reflective and over time gain deeper understanding to what brings you pleasure and how to access it more consistently. It's a planner and journal that allows you to truly explore and practice self-care that is transformative.
What’s Inside The Pleasure Pursuit
The Pleasure Pursuit includes:
52-weeks of planning pages. Each week has the same series of tasks for you to complete which are identifying your
Pleasure Theme - what type of pleasure do you want to explore this week?
Pleasure Affirmation - what do you need to remind yourself about pleasure this week?
Pleasure Intentions - what are your pleasure goals for the week?
Pleasure Strategy - what are the resources you need to experience pleasure this week? What are the potential obstacles you might foresee getting in the way of your pleasure this week?
Journal. Each weekly planning section is followed by journal questions designed to help you gain more self-awareness about pleasure, yourself, and your sense of wellbeing.
In addition to these primary components, The Pleasure Pursuit provides women with guidance and suggestions on how to get grounded and present in their body and ways to seek pleasure.

Black Women Deserve Abundant Pleasure
It is a paradox that the cohort of people on the planet who deserve pleasure the most are the ones who are least likely to seek it out. Black women have had their sexuality defined, co-opted, marketed, stolen, belittled, and used against them from their first existence on American soil. Black women continue to demonstrate the best of what humanity has to offer time and again, offering and pouring out so much of their magic for others to consume and leaving so little for themselves. Central to my mission as a mental and sexual health professional is to change this long-standing imbalance and facilitate as many Black women reclaiming their pleasure unapologetically as possible. The Pleasure Pursuit is a significant tool towards that goal.
The world is on fire—literally in some places—and chaos, divisiveness, and marginalization abound. The Pleasure Pursuit offers a pathway for Black women to divest from the BS, get grounded, and center their joy and pleasure for themselves.
Do Yourself a Favor
If you are ready for a radical reclaiming of your pleasure, The Pleasure Pursuit is for you. If you are tired of being last on your priority list, The Pleasure Pursuit is for you. If you feel so overwhelmed by the chaos of life you don't know how you even feel anymore, The Pleasure Pursuit is for you. If you have gotten disconnected from your body or need to fall back in love with your body, The Pleasure Pursuit is for you. If you want to fully own your sexuality and live in your erotic power, The Pleasure Pursuit is for you. The Pleasure Pursuit is for any and all Black women who are ready to focus on exploring and expanding the boundaries of all things in life that light them up and turn them on.
